Metcalf looked like he was having a tough match with gadhziev earlier but the stream was jumping too much to tell who won.

Metcalf lost to Gadziev, placed 5th overall according to themat. A good showing for him IMO, he beat Botaev who is definitely a world-class wrestler.http://themat.com/section.php?sectio...rticleID=23049

Also, as tough as this tournament is, it's disappointing to me that none of the defending world champs (as far as I can tell) attended. What's up with that?

Dunno, anyone know if gatsalov is doing Iranian premier league? 84kg looks stacked at the yarygin though, gadisov, urishev, saritov, ktsoev, herbert, tavgayzov, hrovat, kortoev. 96 looks pretty good as well with ketoev, saidov, belenovsky, akhmedov, aliev, ibraghimov

Gatsalov is apparently injured and may be retiring according to a poster on TheMat forums.

As a rule, for Russian wrestlers Yarygin tourney is a kind of team trials for the European championships. World champions are not interested to wrestle at Euros, so they don't participate at Yarygin.

Another tradition (recall mtaches of Batirov and Saitiev bros which never happened): Yesterday, Khubezhty bros. had to meet in the 74 kg final. But Caucasian tradition says brothers shouldn't wrestle each other, so the younger one (Kakhaber) had to withdraw. This happened for the second time. In 2006, they reached the finals of the junior nationals. The younger one withdrew.
