    Default Great Canadian Wrestlers

Watching the John Smith/Gary Bohay world final (good matches thread) made me realize that, apart from Igali and Sissouri, I don't really much about the great Canadian wrestlers. I know that Chris Wilson won 2 world medals and beat Fadzaev twice... any other info on great Canadian wrestlers people can share?

I need to look it up, but didn't Baumgartner win his Olympic Gold against a Canadian?
Jeff Thue? Iremeber it being a very one sided match.

Good call. I completely forgot about that, until I read your post. I looked it up and Baumgartner won 8-0.

I always looked at my coach, Marty Calder, as one of the greater canadian wrestlers, he has wins over many world medallists and champions (olympic aswell), he has medalled at the world cup many times and is a pan am and commonwealth champion, he has close matches with many american greats such as tom brands, john smith, lincoln mcilravy and cary colat. Just a shame he never won a world title

One of the unlikeliest Canadian preformances in recent memory is when Calgary's Nico Jacobs, wrestling for Namibia, got a good draw and placed 6th in the world in an Olympic qualifying year.

I thought of Calder as well, I think he was 5th at the world or something like that? Which world medalists did he beat?
He must have been a great weight cutter as we, he sure doesn't look like a 62 kg wrestler now.

Another non-quite-medallist who did pretty well is Justin Abdou. Top 10 in the world and beat Cael Sanderson as well. I was at an SFU training camp a few years back and Abdou, long retired, was wrestling with Travis Cross and beating him pretty handiy.

    John Candy?
To avoid criticism say nothing, do nothing, be nothing.

4-1? wow. Calder's a fair bit bigger but still, impressive.

Nico Jacobs- not his finest moment. Pretty fun wrestler back in the day, a lot of throws and funky counters for a big guy.
