I don't see any contradiction in the fact that the "best wrestlers of the year" aren't Olympic champs. The Olympic champs got their medals in Beijing and the game is over. "Olympic champ" and "best wrestler of the year (not of the day X at the Olympics)" are 2 different things. And why should a wrestler get awards for one and the same victory 2 times? Fila doesn't pick/vote. 3 years ago Fila established particular criteria for naming the "best wrestlers of the year". Everybody knows them. If any of the future Beijing Olympic champs wanted to be named "the best", he/she should have participated at the tourney in Baku which is one of the criteria. |

In my opinion, to be the best, you should win the most important tournament of the year (the Olympics), the one everyone peaks for. BTW the guy I suggested, Muradov, won the Olympics, the Russian championship, and the Yargin I think... and he knocked of 4x champ Gatsalov twice, doesn't get much "Better". Did Muradov even lose a match? I didn't know Fila used criteria though. I guess that works, though their winners aren't necessarily the "best" in the true sense of the word. |

They won some periods today, at the absolute championship. In the 96-kg class, Jafar Sh. lost to Gatsalov 1:0, 0:3, 0:2. At 120, Pouralijan beat Isaev (Aze), then he lost to Makhov 0:1, 0:2. In the finals the 96-kg guys beat the heavyweights. Gatsalov beat Makhov 1:0 (clinch), 1 (Makhov on double leg push out) : 1 (Gatsalov td scoring last) For the third place, Pouralijan lost to Sheikhov (Blr) - I don't know the result. 3 periods were reported. |
