Lebedev makes Russia 1 for 1 as he wins in the final 1-0/0-3/1-0 over Asgarov.

Won the first period 1-0 with a push out off a clinch. Second period went to a clinch as well, Lebedev tried to throw Asgarov through with a chest lock. Ref called it 3 for Asgarov while the chair and judge called it 3 for Lebedev. Azerbaijan challenged and got it overturned. Lebedev won the match with a push out off a scramble with about 25 seconds to go.

Rahimi lost to the bronze medalist in quarterfinal for the third time in a row ! he is become the second Dadashi ! I can't remember the last time Iran won a medal in 55kg !! (I remember Nourzad 2001 Sofia) and that's sad because Rahimi didn't lose to a better wrestler !

North Korean Yang Kyong-Il didn't compete most probably because of the Asian Games.

What happened at the Asian Games or are you saying he's more likely to wrestle there instead of here in Moscow?

That's pretty crazy. From the sound of things he wasn't too far off being the world champion either. How did the Azeris get so good?

Like in Soviet planned/command economy, in Soviet wrestling there was a regional division of production. Azeri wrestling schools were specialized on production of good lightweights in both FS nad GR. Examples are Vougar Oroudjov and Namik Abdullaev. The success of the Azeris in 55, 60 and 66 after the collapse of the USSR is so to say a Soviet heritage. Another consequence is the lack of good wrestlers in the other weight classes; that is why imports from Russia are needed. On the other hand Azerbaijan exports 55-66-kg wrestlers. At this worlds in GR: 55 kg Ragimov (UKR) who was several times European medalist and Arzimanov (TUR) who placed 3rd at 66.

I'm not sure about the policy of all Asian countries (especially mysterious North Korea) but I know for some countries (including China, Korea and Iran) Asian Games has more importance than the world championship. Chine didn't send it's best wrestlers to Moscow.
