So he won 7-9... not taking anything away from him.. he wrestles under the same rules as everyone else, but I still can't get over that.

Re: Andrew Howe: 74 KG US National Champion
I haven't seen the match Schlottke, but often what happens in the beginning of the round affects the scoring at the end. For example, A wrestler is down a couple of points, tries a big throw and ends up on his back, something that he wouldn't do 2 minutes into a match under the old rules. Or a person wins a round 6-0 or 8-0 on a single gut wrench or ankle lace, which wasn't allowed under the old rules. My point is, the final score of each period doesn't tell the whole story sometimes.

That's a good point.

Trent Paulson won the first period pretty handily. It looked like he was going to breeze through the match. Apparently Howe adjusted in the 2nd period.

Re: Andrew Howe: 74 KG US National Champion
Just got done watching the finals match on BTN, very impressive effort by Howe.
Paulson got his points for the tech in the first period and his two points in the third period all with the same move, using a chest lock to counter shots that Howe didn't really get a good angle on and expose his back.
Howe was shooting across the body a little bit (he likes to shoot his singles to the right leg and Paulson is a left lead) and as he came up to try and cut the corner he was giving Paulson the opportunity to roll him through.
Not a lot of offense from Paulson. He seemingly wore down during the second and third period thereby allowing Howe to cut the corner on his shots and finish them for TD's.
