    Default 5 point throw

does anyone know exactly how the refs in freestyle decide if it was a 5 point throw.

High amplitude, feet to back. Basically, you have to arch really hard and they have to ragdoll. A lot of the time it is also based on how hard their legs fold over/flop. Like if their feet are past their head at any time during the throw. Make sense?

You're welcome. I'll try to find a good example video if you need one...?

Not totally true... For instance, you can have a 5 point firemans that involves no arch whatsoever (see 84kg final at world cup this hear for a great 5-point firemans variation)... I believe the criteria are high amplitude, feet-to-back and, the feet of the guy getting thrown have to go above his head.

Right....most of the time people are specifically asking about a chest to back or chest to chest. I just assumed he was as well.

You've got the right idea, but like cpwrestler said, nearly any throw can be worth 5 points (even a headlock). The technical definition can be found in Article 40 in the USAW guide to wrestling (which can be found on themat.com), but basically, the wrestler being thrown must lose all contact with the ground, make a nice big arc and land in danger (not necessarily the back, although 9.9 times out of 10 it will be straight to the back. If all the criteria is met, but the opponnent does not land in danger, the thrower will be awarded 3 points.

I was not 100% correct, as stated before....you just need high amplitude and back exposure. I got 5 points off a foot sweep last weekend. But most of the time you get fives, it's going to be a throw.
