Hargobind international(canada) - $35,000 prize money-----November,6-7/09
The Hargobind tournament is the week after Sunkist November 6-7 in Vancouver Canada.
They had some good wrestlers last year teams, from India,Bulgaria, a few Russians and many Americans.
Past champions include Jake Herbert,Ben Askren, Andy Hrovat, Mo Lawal, Mocco, Jared Frayer, Yogi Dutt from India, Garcia from Canada etc...
The tourny has some unique challenge matches where the champions wrestler each other for some big $$$. Mocco walked away with $7000 last year.
We need more tournaments like this , that awards cash to the wrestlers.
Here's the brochure.

This is a great tournament, I dont know the criteria for the grand prix but this tournament should be apart of it so we can see more talent come out.

Back when it was still the Clansman guys like Farniev, Ketoev, Gayzumov and Otosultranov wrestled in it as well. Great tournament.

Spin, can you give us some background on the Hargobind team? Are all indo-canadian wrestlers in the lower mainland and area part of it? Is it run by a Board of Directors? The community seems very involved with it. I think it's awesome.

Unfortunately I don’t know much about the system. I wrestled in the tournament a couple of times, that’s about it. I’m not from the area. I’m told that the community is much more involved now, and that they cheer like crazy for the finals, and that the winners (esp. guys with east Indian backgrounds, maybe like Pineda) ran around the stands afterwards and people gave them handfuls of cash. Makes me wish I was still competing. Don’t know why the Russians sent some of their best guys (as they had no real competition) but it was awesome to see them live.

Is he not? I was just trying to come up with an example off hand of someone who might be Indo-Canadian and also have won the Hagobind. I don't actually know the racial ancestry of any of the BC wrestlers.

The Hargobind club is actually a club for youngters. They have many state champions. Recently they teamed up with SFU and changed the Clansman International into the Hargobind International. East indian wrestlers that have
won this when it was called Clansman (Yogi Johal, Randeep Sohdi,Baljeet Sull)
Hargobind club offered lots of $$$ support to Olympic Champion Daniel Igali.
There is more information on their website. www.Hargobindwrestling.com
