The thing is... action is what wears people down. In the WTT finals, he say around a lot; you don't wear opponents down by stalling. Judging by the scores today he is opening up and making his opponents tired by making them wrestle. Clearly his leg shots that I was so critical of earler are working for him against world class opponents.

    Good luck Jake!

Exactly jake said he was going to attack and wear them down and people gave him a hard time. They did not give him a hard time becuase he was not active at the trials but because they said that mindset would not produce results against the rest of the world particularly in a 2 minute period best of three match. He lost periods in several matches but as the match wore on jake kept attacking and his opponents wore down.

At the risk of offending the owner here, congratulations to Jake on a fantastic effort for silver.

That guy didn't do jack that match. I actually think Herbert won the 1st period. After the belly to belly throw it appeared as though Herbert had control of the hip when the knee was still down.

Then we went to the clinch which Herbert lost on the ball draw.

The other guy was 100% happy to go to the clinch. This is where I see the true flaw in this rule. Why couldn't a guy train nothing but stalling & staying in bounds for regulation, and then clinch? There were 3 better wrestlers than Sokhiev (USA, AZE, RUS).
I wish I could kick Matt Dragon in the balls. In his Dragonballz.

I agree that it could have gone Herbert's way in the first, but why didn't the coaches protest?

I remember being critical myself of Jake's wrestling at the trials. I can't wait to watch his matches today. Sucks to lose a close, boring final but the reality is that a lot of matches at this level come down to single points and clinches. It's not fun but that's the reality. Sokhiev is a multiple world medallist who beat Aldatov and Absudelov, both pretty big stars... congrats on a championship even if it was boring-ly won.

PS just watched the final. IMO... no takedown for Herbert at the end of the first. Maaaybe an effort throw? Very close but I think the right call was made. Interesting- and frustrating- that Sokhiev choose to live it up to the clinch in the way that he did. He's got more credentials that Herbert, why leave it to a 50/50? I liked the emotion at the end, Herbert was clearly steamed but handled the loss with class, and Sokhiev has a "I can't believe it's true" smile on his face.
