    $40,000 in Iran is a lot of money. Isn't the average salary in Iran like $1K-$2K per year? Wrestlers must live like kings there.

    Not quite that low. The average is estimated to be around $9k-$10k but I think to be higher than that.

    That is why Georgian wrestlers (Kurtanidze, Mindorashvili) who had wrestled in the German league moved to the Iranian.
