No. Arpad won 1:0, 1:1 but it was a match at 84 kg. At Ziolkowski 2007.

At the same tourney an year earlier, Saitiev lost to Shapiev. In the first period, Shapiev had a 5:0 lead. Saitiev withdrew.

Seems like Saitiev has had most of his losses the past few years. I guess age catches up with us all. He still looked pretty good at the Olympics though.

To say the least. That bracket was just ridiculously tough this past year.

Only way it could have possibly been better would have been had he had Aldatov in the semi's.

Hopefully nobody takes this the wrong way, but do you guys think that luck/officiating had some influence over Saitiev's sucess in his later years? My memory could be flawed but I seem to remember him winning several very close and sometimes controversial matches over the years..

I've watched the referee's decision over Gaidrov he had one year, I also would have given the bot to Saitiev but it was really close. He also had that match at the Olympics with Gaidrov that led to controversy and a big fight. Didn't he also have one with Joe Williams one year that was quite controversial? And there was discussion after his match with Murtazaliev that Murta didn't get all the points he was entitled to.

Anyway, maybe I'm way out to lunch, but it sure seems that close calls go in Saitiev's favor.

BTW if anyone has the videos of the match with Williams or the Olympic one with Gaidrov (or even a recap explainning exactly what happened) that would be great.
