    Default New to NYC

    Hello everyone,

I just moved to New York from California and I'm looking to join a wrestling club, preferably in NYC. I've graduated college so I wrestle freestyle & greco-roman in the Open division. Does anyone know where I can go for training and tournaments?

The New York Athletic Club is probably the best option if you want to compete on the senior circuit.

180 Central Park South. Greco is Mon and Wed at 7 pm and Freestyle is Tues and Thurs at 7 pm. The last I was there, they were charging around $600 a year to train there but I don't know if that has changed since I moved a year ago.

Contact the NYAC Wrestling president Noel Thompson at Noel.Thompson@gs.com

Aside from that, Beat the Streets just started an Adult program -- http://beat-the-streets.org/page/tea...stling-program

Thanks DH! I totally appreciate the info. Looks like that's just enough resource I need to start competing again.

What weight are you? And are you looking to do more freestyle or greco? Let me know and I can get you the contact info for guys around your weight so you can talk to them about training with them

I compete at 121 lbs. (55kg), but right now I'm walking around at 132 pounds. That's why I need the mat time to cut down to my competition weight. If you can hook me up with folks who can help, that would be awesome!

btw: I wrestle mainly freestyle, but I also like to train greco to work on my throws.

    DH-

Is that $600 to start up or like a monthly rate?
I wish I could kick Matt Dragon in the balls. In his Dragonballz.

Perfect... email me at dhobeika@gmail.com and I can send you a bunch of contacts -- I competed at 112/121 lbs so I can hook you up with all the lightweight guys I used to train with. And if you don't mind training with women, there are 2 awesome females that train there.

Are you living in Manhattan or in one of the boroughs? I also know some aclubs out in Long Island too if you live in that direction.

Grips -- the last I was there, you could either pay $300 every 6 months or $600 every year. But things might have changed since I haven't lived in NYC for a year. if you are interested, let me know and I can get the most recent info from my NYAC buddies.
