Default Pan American Games Predictions -- Men's FS

55 - Cejudo 1st. Either Cuba or Colombia second.

60 - If Saeed goes, either he or Mike will win it. Garcia from Colombia is hard to score on and knows how to keep matches tight. If he scores first, he may pull some upsets. Remember, no Cuba at this weight ? they are too fat for this weight.

66 - Schwab 2nd, if Garzon is there. Garzon will make mistakes that cost him big points, but he's in such good shape and is so strong mentally, that he just keeps on scoring points. Garzon also has the ability to go upper body, especially when he falls behind in a match. From Schwab's WTT matches, it was very obvious this is a position he doesn?t want to be in, and is not comfortable in. Neither Esposito nor Frayer are to par with Garzon, and they have been able to capitalize off the upper body position against Schwab. Schwab could go down as low as 3rd if Roberty wants to compete. It seems like Roberty cuts waaay too much weight, so if Schwab gets him in the later rounds, it may be trouble. I know, I know, Schwab blanked Roberty last year. Roberty has improved a lot tho, remember he has a victory over B.Z. My wishes are with Schwab, he?s a good kid, and is mentally strong? sad to say, I don?t think he?s as strong as Garzon.

74 - Fundora is tough, but he can break mentally and will give up big points (At this time, he?s my favorite to win it). I would not mind seeing Gentry make some damage. I know he's been training hard, but he still doesn?t have the best freestyle mentality. Gentry needs to learn to do what the world?s best are doing: Score first, then shut down. He seems to try to break people by continually scoring, but that has backfired on him. This is such a solid weightclass! Pound for pound the strongest wrestlers (not best, just physically strong)? even Ecuador has some steak in that weight class!!

84 - Hrovat - I dont know if anyone is even in the same league as Romero (There are some rumors he?s going up a weight). Hrovat has a lot to prove.

96 - Cormier - To be honest, I think a loss in this tournament would be beneficial to DC, as he needs a little wake-up call/motivation to get him ready for the worlds. The scale seems to be his toughest opponent. He seems to be using way too much of his energy for cutting weight at the last minute. They should blackball him from the Colorado Spring?s Papa John?s & T Brands should ducktape that kid?s mouth shut for a couple of days before the tourney. If so, we should definitely see a gold.

htw -Rolands. Should be able to win the tournament. Seems like his confidence and his wrestling are on the up and up.

Note -- The Cubans make a strong statement at this tournament year after year. Their coaches will be especially motivated this year? after the whole 60 kilo fiasco.

PS. I do not have a THEMat account, but feel free to cut and paste this on themat forums.

haha, i was going to put a disclaimer stating 'however, i dont know much about this weight class.' i didnt bc i thought such a statement would take credibility away from my predictions.

What do you know about the Colombians, and some of the other south american countries ? Are these guys home grown, or Cuban defectors ? I don't hink there's anything wrong with people trying to better their position in life, or wrestling for that matter. Just curious.

What about Zilberman from Canada at 96kg? He was top 5 last year at Worlds.

the great majority of the latin ameircan wrestlers are home grown. i will tell you one thing though.... a bunch of the junior league and local league coaches throughout L.A. are former cuban standouts. puerto rico, colombia, venezuela... all have a bunch of cuban coaches in their youth leagues throughout the country side. it seems the countries are good at keeping the cuban coaches behind the scenes in terms of national team decisions and coaching. argentina, on the other hand, has some former soviet people and maccabi (sp?) people running around.

the canadian at 96 lost to the cuban for the bronze at the 06 worlds. that may make 96 the toughest weight there.

I think the Cuban at 96K is Batista.
I saw him on the WC videos and he is an exciting wrestler always going for throws.

so rumor has it cuba was granted a wildcard for freestyle at 60 kilos. remember, quintana did not make weight at the pan-am qualifier. thus he did not clasify the weight class. however, he seems to be way over weight. what are the vegas odds against him making weight???... for the second time
