Way too many pins even in the medal rounds. Looks more like a summer high school tournament where you have a few studs pinning everyone.
At 55 the Japanese pins the Chinese in the final with an arm bar!

I remeber seeing Gable geting a pin in the Olympics with an arm bar...
I agree the women definitely are not on the same level as the men, but it makes most of the matches better to watch, more scoring, less defense.
hate to say it but I didn't see as many matches with the women conceding a period with 30 left like in Greco I understand different style but my point is 90% fought their balls off it was refreshing to watch hs summer tourneys usually arent.
Yes im aware I said ball
John Smith wears women's underpants!
I think that was a result of the bracketing as well as the wrestling style of women. First, you had Merlini and Icho meeting in the quarterfinals. Those two wrestled eachother for the gold medal in 2004. Same thing happened with Verbeek and Yoshida at 55 kg who met in the semis instead of the finals. So tougher wrestlers met earlier on.
Second, women tend to wrestle more balls out rather than the men who have a more conservative style. That results in more scoring, but also opening yourself up to more dangerous situations that result in the pins. The Colombian woman at 55 kg was a good example of this style. She went for some really huge moves like a double overhook throw, but also left herself open to being scored upon a lot because of it.
As for me, I prefer to watch the women since there is more action.
In men's wrestling a pin is very embarrassing while it seems in women's wrestling it is much more accepted.
At hotel in Beijing and getting ready to attend today's matches. Should be great competition. Go USA. Let's get a couple medals!
