Default GR tournament in Ukraine - Gaber lost

Azovmash GR Tournament in Mariupol, Ukraine, July 7-8 2007

    Results - http://sc-azovmash.org/sc_turnir/rezul.htm

The throwing machine of Egypt lost his first (and only one) match to Evgeni Kirsanov of Russia 2:0, 1:2, 2:2. The 25 years old Russian guy is almost unknown. He has won some regional tournaments in Russia, but he has never medaled at nationals (he placed 8th at the nationals 10 days ago) and at international tournaments.

Hey Yazdani, the Greco-Iranians did a good job winning several medals, two of them ? gold ? Ali Ashkani at 60 and Tahmasebi at 84. In the match vs. the 2006 European champ Michalkiewicz, Ghasem lost the 1st period 0:5; then he came back and won the whole thing. In the finals, he beat one of the good Russian wrestlers (representing Armenia since recently) Denis Forov. Hmmm... my favorite 84/96 kg Greco-Iranian Ghasem Reazaei lost to Mambetov of Kazakhstan 0:9 Two months ago they met in the final of the Asian championships where Ghasem beat that guy 5:0.

Thanks for the info Akzent. Yes, Ghassem can be very hot and cold as can Ashkani. Couple of questions. Do you know who the other wrestler for Iran is at 60kg? The name almost looks Hamid Sourian's full name but is different. Some times names get written differently when competing in other countries. Also I see alot of Turkish wrestlers with Slavic ending names. Are these imports or are they adding these endings to their name? I believe the Iranian guy who placed 2nd to Georgi Tsursumia is the same Payam Zarrinpour who competes at Sacred Heart University.

Some of the Turkish names seem to be misspelled, but I don't see any Slavic endings in them.

Yes, he is Soryan. It is not easy to cope with Iranian names. According to fila, his full name is Hamid Soryan Reihanpour. The Ukrainians wrote Renhard Soryan. Maybe he didn't make weight at 55 or he just wanted to make an attemt at 60.

Rustumov and Malakhov don't sound very Turkish to me.

is Gaber fully healed? I know he was treating some injuries not too long a go. while fully healthy, defeating him will be a sight to see.

I don't know, but the greatest weightlifter ever was a Turk named Suleimonov.

That's becuase he is was born in Bulgaria. Many Turkish-Bulgarian athletes (mainly weightlifters and sometimes wrestlers) go on to compete for Turkey. As could be the case for those two wrestlers. But yes Naim is the greatest. His real name is Naim Süleymanoğlu.
