In my experiance Americans complain more about the new rules then anyone else. I think this is partly because a large amount of your wrestling population is engaged in folkstyle and does not have much or full knowledge of FS and greco thus making it that more confusing. The rest of the world looks at the rules as exactly that...THE RULES. Its what they have to wrestle under and they don't complain about it they find out how to work with it and win with it. That being said Greco has become much more a game of chance then has freestyle but still complaining endlessly is not going to fix it. If you have wrestled under the new rules especially in FS you will find they really are'nt as terrible as many ppl make them out to be.

That makes sense. Most US fans still have a problem with the basic concept of exposure counting for 2 and a takedown being 1 point.

I've found as I've watched more over the last couple days the rules have started to make a modicum more sense.

Last night watching all the bouts through the semi's I didn't really have any "why'd that happen?" moments.

So do you think the wrestlers throwing their hands up in confusion / disgust are just acting?

No.

I'm just stating my own opinion, which is as I've continued the watch I've started to get a handle on the rules.

Whether or not I like them/agree with them is a completely different question.

Some of them probably are; they're a lot of gamesmanship going on, especially with the clinch. Getting the faster start, without getting penalized, is hugely advantageous. In addition scoring if often controvertial in international wrestling; it was that way under the "old rules" too.

You don't have to like the greco rules (I don't) but they're quite understandable. Maybe it helps to have wrestled under those rules.
