You don't need to get mean or violent, but you do need to walk out there with no respect (in a good way) or fear for your opponent. Being mean/angry/violent opens you up to making mistakes.. Having no fear allows you to attack your opponent without worrying about whether he is tougher, being hurt (legally), or more technically sound than you. The two (mean/without fear) are very similar, yet completely different in execution.
I always focused on a couple different things:
- Don't waste a week of hard practice by wrestling soft.
- Don't back down because people say he's tough- make him look weak... No matter how bad everyone else thinks he is- he is human. (Ask Darrion Caldwell)
