And you're right about the ideological opposition to socialism, Big. It's funny how these days, when people are finally to the point where we can talk about national healthcare, the ideological opposition surfaces again and again, even from those who would probably benefit from some form of universal healthcare.

With regard to healthcare the problem starts with those advertisements. High cholesterol? Take just one pill per day. Want to lose weight? Take this pill. These advertisements should be banned! They poison people's minds. They are money makers. Healthcare should be geared towards maximum results with minimal spending, NOT maximal spending.

I agree they are poisonous. Don't get me started on pills. Okay, one of the ladies from work recently handed me a CD touting the latest pyramid scheme of the day involving, of course, supplements (something you ingest on the promise of great health benefits but no one knows if they really work or not). I wasn't thinking quick enough. I should have told her I'm the last person who would go for this stuff. But I had it so a couple of days later I plugged in and watched part of the CD (22 minutes to be exact) just to study their techniques. Promises made: wealth and health (basically in that order). Get the car and house of your dreams (Don't we all have an unquenchable thirst for material things? If not, you're supposed to). Don't work too hard. Always smile.

Anyway, it's my opinion the bulk of the supplement industry (including all the purported muscle drug portion) is essentially a scam. It's the emperor who wore no clothes, only all the pill-poppers spending sometimes hundreds of dollars per month are playing like the emperor. Supplements fit perfectly into the pyramid schemes. Like soda pop, you can probably make them for pennies, and sell them for dollars.

The lady from work is also an evangelist, and I note that because the evangelist side of my extended family are the ones who go for these pyramid schemes and magic supplements. As Joel Osteen will tell us, the acquisition of wealth is God-like.
