Another Question: Lindsay Graham of SC speaks
Graham of South Carolina says on CNN: "Look at our history, it took us 13 years to write a Constitution and we had our own Civil War."
My question is if we are going to compare Iraq's present dilemma to American history more than 200 years ago than why do we expect Iraq to be any better than slavery, child labor and so on that existed during those times?
I don't know specifically in what context Graham spoke, but as to your question, I think humankind has progressed a little in 200 years--although sometimes it seems as if we haven't. So slavery and child labor are not acceptable. Arguably they weren't acceptable 200 years ago either.
Well, he seems to justify all of the carnage and troubles in Iraq by saying it happned even in America during Civil War and such.
In other words he advocates barbaric tactics of 200 years ago to bring to Iraq Democracy of today.
You can't have it both ways IMO.
Why not nuke them since it worked in Japan?
Sounds like a bad argument to me. This isn't the 1860s and there's no rule that you have to shed blood to write a constitution or establish a functional government.
