I know I'm old and it's been awhile, but last time I went to church I was met by greeters (a nice family with their children posted at the door to welcome people) not an armed guard. Is this common in mega-churches?

"All my life I have tried to pluck a thistle and plant a flower wherever the flower would grow in thought and mind." -- Abraham Lincoln
I read about that too and was a little surprised by that.
Maybe as someone who attends a small Catholic church, I'm out of the loop of the massive non-denominational churches.
Sign of the times. Lots of $$$$$. I doubt the guards are standing there guarding it like Buckingham Palace.
Hero Guard... http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/ar...TICLE_ID=59138
I too thought the armed guard was weird, but considering the church has 10,000 members, with probably thousands each Sunday, I suppose it might make sense. I might make a comment about paranoic, us against the world types, but would probably just be stereotyping them.

A reminder, in case anyone is interested, that the movie Jesus Camp goes inside the New Life church (where the shootings occurred). It's not the main subject of the film, but you get a perspective on the size of the church, and, bonus, you get to hear and see Ted Haggard speak.
I go to a small church in DFW. The associate pastor, who handles the loot, packs during service. Some see a church as an easy target. There have been many churches or preachers robberies in the metroplex the last year.
10,000 people. Probably deep into six figures of donations on Sunday. All of those bodies. It isn't a sign of the times.... that is common sense in any time of the past 80 years.
I think in times past if you decided to hit a big Church in little Italy New York City, you would be one with the fishes. Basically there were consequences, and measures taken, they were just different in nature.
I am 49, bald, ugly, and don't own a single cool thing. Kids like me though.
Last weeks Church shootings was not the first and apparently won't be the last as this report tracks a rise in these incidents. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/ar...TICLE_ID=59219
