I remember Bush touting how American freedom affords this enormous increase in home ownership the past few years. So many folks getting houses only in America.

The National Association of Home Builders, the National Association of Realtors and the Mortgage Bankers of America don't endorse presidential candidates, they're quick to point out. But the trade associations acknowledge that many of their members, who are small-business owners and big-business executives, are in the GOP fold.

Industry members also voted with their checkbooks. Employees and political action committees in the three industries gave almost three times as much money to President Bush as to his rival, Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass. -- about $10.8 million compared with $3.7 million as of Oct. 4, according to information from the Center for Responsive Politics.

Now that their favorite is in for another four years, you might think the three big housing industry groups could relax. After all, during the campaign, Bush repeated his commitment to two of their prime goals: boosting homeownership and cutting regulation.

So, you're saying that the American Dream of owning your own home began in 2000, and was conjured up by GWB and the R's?

No but according to the article he touted a rapidly expanding housing market with few regulations.

I like the sound of that. Almost libertarian.

Maybe, but he still didn't have any control over the money and mortgage rates. You can thank Greenspan, The Fed and the bankers looking to make a fast buck. Those bankers are paying the price right now, along with a slew of speculators and buyers that got in too deep.

Well maybe, but it's so much easier to just blame Bush.
