With Bush going out, Democrats in majority, and generally an expectation of Democrats swarming in the government in about a year and a half why not cuddle up early to USA to not make it too obvious when socialists in America and France unite after 2008? Add a souring of relations between Britain and USA with firing of a poodle Blair and France is seizing on a golden opportunity, long due since the war of Independence.
