Here is a parody of American Democracy from yours truly
Suppose there are 10 Nuclear engineers who have different proposals to build Nuclear plants around the country. All proposals have advantages and disadvantages that involve more or less risks of causing great harm to the Nation and the World but one project must be selected since the county’s survival is dependent on these nuclear plants.
American citizens will pick one Nuclear engineer to implement his proposal based on that engineer’s looks, ability to debate, how much money he collects for his campaign, his family status, his religious beliefs, and his past job accomplishments. These engineers will launch various advertisements to boost their images and smear their opponents.
These engineers get their money for campaigns from various nuclear parts factories whose sole interest is to win a contract to develop the parts for the nuclear plants but who do not actually have any say in the design of the plants.
Nevermind the fact that most voters have no idea on how to build a nuclear plant, let alone all the intricacies of advantages and risks.
Nuclear engineers were initially largely selected based on the nuclear plant parts factories’ assessments on how well each engineer would be able to “sell” his project to the voters.

PS One engineer had a really good proposal as was noted by many experts but he had to drop out of the race because he was Muslim. Another engineer chose not to participate because he was Jewish. Finally, a really smart third engineer figured he had no chance since he was married 3 times.

Nice parody, Big. You forgot to mention one of the criteria for the selection of the nuclear engineers is their record of taking safe positions.
Too bad Nuke Gingrich is no longer in the running, eh?

Re: Here is a parody of American Democracy from yours truly
Some of America's founders thought very closely to what Big does. That is why the electoral college exists. The general election is only used as a suggestion to the electors, but the electors are still free to choose as they see fit. The electoral college assumes that the average American does not have the intelligence or the time to properly elect a public official, so a few people will elect the official for the people. Hence, the US is a republic, not a democracy.
This same reason is why the senate exists. In our bicameral legislature, the House of Representatives is considered to be the lesser house and its members are supposed to vote based on the views of the majority of their respective districts. The House of representatives, in the early days, was thought to be composed of the common man.
The senate, however, is the more highly esteemed body and is supposed to be made of more highly educated professional politicians. Senators were envisioned as voting by their own consciences and beliefs, rather than necessarily representing their respective districts.

Re: Here is a parody of American Democracy from yours truly
One engineer who is currently a front runner has convinced many of his ability to design a good nuclear plant because he was once in charge of the area where bad guys attacked that nuclear plant and he had to clean up the mess.
Another engineer is a front runner because she is a woman and her husband was selected in the past to build nuclear plants as well which he did relatively well, although he has one bad mark of cheating on her with an engineering intern.

Yeah, and in "Soviet Union" the nuclear engineer that had all the other nuclear engineers shot in the head would be the one that won.
I can do parody too, BIG guy.

Re: Here is a parody of American Democracy from yours truly
In fact one candidate has not done any engineering work for years. He became an actor and played a nuclear engineer on TV. He played his part so well that voters asked him to design a nuclear plant in real life.

Re: Here is a parody of American Democracy from yours truly
One thing to always remember is that our Democratic system was supposed to fail. It wasnt supposed to become the worlds greatest super power 170 years into its existence. So for all of its faults it has overcome the greatest odds to succeed.
