I dont understand the point of this thread. We know that we spend a lot on the military. We spend more on entitlements, in 2010 we spent 1.4 trillion as opposed to 680 billion on defense.

Dont forget that the military provides thousands of jobs, health care and educational benefits to the people who serve.

    ugly,
One of the graphs showed the increase per year since 1962-check the site out -he has documented (supposedly) where every $ budgeted has gone since 1962. The site also shows ALL the defaulted monies owed to the US and more.

    BOGUS
Life's not the breaths you take, the breathing in and out that gets you through the day ain't what it's all about. It's the moments that take your breath away.

Also provides plenty of other well opportunities like being homeless, rejecting medical benefits to those poisoned by depleted uranium bullets & agent orange and being pumped full of unnecessary pathogens as a part of undisclosed medical experiments.

Notice how many Politicians who wanted the war didn't serve nor did their children. They are hypocrites as well as lining the pockets of their buddies in the Defense industry with over-priced contracts, (Remember Rumsfeld said the Pentagon couldn't account for 4 trillion dollars). Great industry that also has displaced 250,000 people & killed a million in Iraq. It is a business we could cut back on & reinvest upon our culture at home as opposed to helping to destroy others abroad.

Lets not also forget that the military is volunteer and the military has no obligation to pay people after they leave the service if they did not complete 20 years. Most of the men in my family including myself served and none are homeless. I understand that the military needs to reign in spending but I am telling you the first cut will be to the soldiers it always is.

I would also point out that there are more people who enjoy the benefit of being free and rail against the military than there are hypocrits who make money off of the military. People who never served certainly find a backbone to defend their freedoms from a far when they dont have the courage to pick up a rifle and serve. I love the let someone else do it crowd, while they spit on the soldiers when they return home.

    UGLY,
I found this site while trying to find the # of times a bank has gone belly up due to silly ass loans to 3rd world nations and then been bailed out by their friends in govt.(i.e.-when Mexico defaulted in the 70's and bankers lost billions and the US bailed them out )why should banks be bailed out for being greedy or stupid ?
In fairness , the money spent % wise for military has dropped considerably. In 1962 it was 48% of the budget. I am trying to connect bank closings to bailouts to war. IMO, why should we shed blood for some BS country fighting a civil war ? I am just trying to find a definitive link to ''the good old boy' network of bankers who send the best soldiers in the world off to some nonsensical war just so they can bail each other out .
As Dale Dribble-from KING OF THE HILL -said -''I am a beauracrat 's worst nightmare-I have the internet, a phone and nothing to do and all day to do it ''. I understand I am useless-point conceded-but I can still try to help the helpless or bring to light wrongs perpetrated upon us by Ivy league elitists.
You know, I think I would rather be a man than a god . We don't need anyone to believe in us. We just keep going anyhow. It's what we do.

    RYOU-
Why does ''inflation adjusted'' = BOGUS ? I thought this term meant 1968 $s in 2011 $s .When one is speaking of a million dollars in 1960 compared to 2005-there is a HUGE difference , isn't there ?
