I feel the same way, I was just wondering if KR was paying attention.

So are you saying that if your kid got a full ride to a school like Notre Dame, you wouldn't let him go? And I don't even know if they have a wrestling program, but you get the question. Free school with preaching or daddy pays.

I don't think ND rams religion down your throat, even though it's a catholic school. A better example would be Oral Roberts, BYU, Geneva College, or any other school where they have mandatory chapel, Bible study, etc...

I did not say Cael could not overcome his problems or biases if they exist. I do see his problems and relationship with Bobby Douglas as one that raises questions.

As for what LDS members believe, do you really think they can pick and choose what statements of The Prophets are inspired and which are trash?

Racist doctrine like this cannot be allowed to be swept under the rug with 'we don't believe it now'. It was taught and believed in the past and many I know still believe it even if they won't state it publicly. A running joke at BYU is 'black track athletes... Javelin catchers'.

Racism is alive and well in the culture. Cael is a product of the culture. I hope he can overcome any latent or unrecognized bias, but Bubba and Bobby present problems even as he tries to recruit black athletes. I would never let my kids go to a school with LDS coaches because of the prejudice they have grown up with. It is there and it does not go way by saying 'we don't believe it... any more'.

If I had to choose between my kid not going to college at all or going to a religious sponsored college, I'd send him to the religious college and tell him he could ignore all the religious stuff or simply consider it educational. If I could afford to send him to a school that I felt was more appropriate, I'd spend the money. This is, of course, hypothetical because even though my daughter graduated from college nine years ago, she feels the same as I do about the subject, and I'm proud to say she arrived at her beliefs on her own with no (or very little) influence from me.

BTW, Quinn14, when I made the statement about not tolerating a coach who incorporated religion into his coaching, I was thinking about public school, but your question was a good one.

I would not have a problem with many Religious schools. BYU would not be one I want any of my kids to attend. Notre Dame would be fine. It is actually University and not a glorified religious high school. It is an academic environment that will challenge kids, not like BYU which always has problems with freedom on campus in many forms.

The fact a coach is religious is not a problem for me. It is the specific teachings and practices of a religion that are. Knowing what LDS Leaders have taught through the years about Blacks and 'unworthiness', I would not have my kids in a program led by LDS members.

The LDS First Presidency has stated a number of times that "The Negro Problem" is from God. I think that is pure BS. Trouble is that I know way too many Mormons who really believe this. They are not the kind of people I want to be around. Due to government transfers I spent way too much time in Utah and saw first hand what reality is.

The only difference in Warren Jeffs(the fundamentalist mormon prophet of the polygamist Mormons currently still in the news - and him still in jail - and still married to 14 year olds) and Joseph Smith, the LDS/Mormon first Prophet is that Jeffs is alive and Joseph Smith is dead. Both married 14 year olds. Joseph Smith married a number of women already married to other men, one even the wife of one of his Apostles he sent on a missionary tour to dedicate the land of Palestine for the return of the Jews.

As I posted, Cael is the victim of his upbringing. To his credit he chose not to go on a Mormon mission so maybe there is hope for him yet.

Jeffs isn't a member of the LDS church either. You (seemingly conveniently) left that part out. He's a fundamentalist, who follows the the old way word for word, and is not accepted in the LDS church. Honestly, you really just seem like you have a bone to pick, and if so, then go for it, but to take out your beef with Mormons on one person in particular, and blindly accuse him of being racist, is complete BS.
