How is it a "distraction"? I said he saved some money by not attending - probably more than enough to cover his salary for this year.

That one trip may be a minor cost if it only happens once, but if they cut 10 of those "cheap" trips a year for four years you would save 16-25 million dollars.

It is a distraction because when we are talking about the Federalbidget one or even 40 trips over four years does not amount to a drop in the bucket. If he were to take those 40 less trips and save that hypothetical $25 million that we amount to about $.02 of savings for every American.

My figure of .0000001% was an actual calcuation using 0,000 per one trip and a federal budget of trillion.

I am OK with trying to cut excessive government spending, but we should focus on the waste that is costing us billions not tens of thousands.

As a life-long registered Republican and as a veteran, I guess I should have been offended when I read this in my e-mail. Instead I went to Snopes. Story isn't true. O.K. Another attempt to smear a politician by bringing up non-issues. Certainly, if you have issue-differences with the actions being taken by the president (of which there are many to choose from), question those actions. But attendance at a football game? Give me a break.
By the way, President Roosevelt did not stay away from the Army-Navy game "because he had a war going on." He avoided public appearances that would result in his being seen in a wheel chair. He could not have walked into the stadium, gotten to his seat, etc. without it - to far, even with his crutches (which he also tried to avoid using in public.)

This should have ended the thread. Amazing that anyone thinks that this (even if it were true, which apparently it isn't) is an issue at all.

Who said they aren't related? ... the amount of savings has nothing to do with my initial post which reads "Obama probably saved the tax payers quite a bit of $$ on his security detail and travel by not going."

I don't see where I ever said the amount saved is a large part of the budget.

His costs for the security detail and travel are significantly lower than if he went to the game. It had nothing to do with our overall budget.
