Whether there was precedent or not.... THIS President, given his reputation, earned or not, made a mistake by not going. I'll bet he makes the one in 2011.

I don't get it... If he had avoided serving in a war, like Clinton (or W.) then your statement might make sense, but I think you don't like the President and you generalize that Dems are weak on defense, therefore this is a "mistake" which you can bash him.

As a life-long registered Republican and as a veteran, I guess I should have been offended when I read this in my e-mail. Instead I went to Snopes. Story isn't true. O.K. Another attempt to smear a politician by bringing up non-issues. Certainly, if you have issue-differences with the actions being taken by the president (of which there are many to choose from), question those actions. But attendance at a football game? Give me a break.

By the way, President Roosevelt did not stay away from the Army-Navy game "because he had a war going on." He avoided public appearances that would result in his being seen in a wheel chair. He could not have walked into the stadium, gotten to his seat, etc. without it - to far, even with his crutches (which he also tried to avoid using in public.)

non-issue if you were to ask me. Obama probably saved the tax payers quite a bit of $$ on his security detail and travel by not going.

With the recent uptick in terror activity Secret Service may have suggested not going.

Where was the game this year? Navy is like 25 minutes from the Whitehouse.

Philadelphia... plus, its not just him traveling.. support staff, other planes that bring his vehicles, the secret service teams and their vehicles..

I believe the game was in Philly though which would have probably required a short flight. (I don't know how far they will drive with him in the vehicle?)

Fretting about the relatively minor cost of the President's travel and sercurity is an uneccsary distraction. I would estimate it would be about .0000001% of the Fedral budget. There are serious concerns about the money the US government is spending and borrowing. A trip to a football is not one of them.

How is it a "distraction"? I said he saved some money by not attending - probably more than enough to cover his salary for this year.

That one trip may be a minor cost if it only happens once, but if they cut 10 of those "cheap" trips a year for four years you would save 16-25 million dollars.
