Thread: Russian Mob and the NHL

  1. #1

Default Russian Mob and the NHL

One of the biggest disappointments of the Pens vs. Red Wings Stanley Cup finals has been the poor play from Evgeni Malkin.

The young Pittsburgh superstar is a finalist for the NHL MVP, but he has been all but invisible in this series.

Could it be that he is being extorted by the Russian Mob?

Malkin made a very shady exodus from Mother Russia in the middle of the night. Apparently, the powers to be didn't want their young national treasure to leave.

His family is still in Russia ???

It wouldn't be the first time in recent history that something like this has happened.

The topic is not completely correct. It should read "The Russian Mob and the NHL Mob". NHL does shady things of its own like luring people into NHL even if they have prior obligations in the Mother country.

In other words Malkin had a contract in Russia which he broke by escaping to America.

I will go further, if I were in charge in Russia I would have all Russian hockey players from age 18 on sign a form that would bar them from playing in any club outside of Russia without the release of the Russian government.

Why should Russia train great hockey players for America?

I think Malkin's hurt, personally. He's not just invisible, he's actively making crappy plays. Might all be a conspiracy theory but I bet it comes out after the finals that he had a fairly serious injury, sustained sometime in the middle of the Flyers series.

They already try to pull that crap anyway, by not releasing the player to the NHL because he's "in the army".

Question Big: Is it okay if the player will be playing for a team in Canada?

I say Russia should get 50% of the profit NHL makes from each player it gets.

So, the money that the NHL teams pay to buy out the Russian club's contract is of no benefit?

Its peanuts. I believe they pay like $250K per player. That's nothing.
