Dumb question great answer

A GREAT ANSWER TO A DUMB QUESTION:



Katie Couric, while interviewing a Marine sniper, asked: "What do you feel when you shoot a terrorist?"

The Marine shrugged and replied: "Recoil." (Hard to fault a Marine that?s that eloquent!)

I agree w/Ugly. It's a dumb question and a great answer. It's dumb because what's the guy supposed to say? It's also dumb because how does the sniper know a "terrorist" is on the other end (that assumes a lot)? So, she's planting words in his mouth.

Exactly, she was fishing for the answer she wanted. You should not ask questions like that to a professional soldier whos job it is to protect our country by killing the enemy.

I wouldn't go that far ugly. I would say his job is to follow orders for which he is getting paid just like an employee on any other job. Anything beyond that is a political statement where you can find just as many people disagree with you as you would find to agree with you..

Aren't we ALL volunteers at our jobs?

You and me can quit our jobs whenever we want he cant. He had to swear an oath to protect this country against all enemies. He does have the right to ignore orders that he feels are wrong.

Say he kills a Sunni insurgent that took arms after Saddam was taken out. Even in America you will find many,many people saying the insurgent is not a terrorist whereas the military will say he is a terrorist. Since the marine is fighting for ALL American people, the statement that he killed a terrorist or even an american enemy is simply a political one.

I dont know if you have realized this or not but there are some people in this country who would we rather just try to talk our way out of everything even to the point that we are taken over by someone else. We cant always be passive and the soldiers job is to protect us

Not everybody is capable of killing others. I myself would have a hard time being a sniper, not everybody understands the mentality that it takes. Furthermore, I do not think every sniper has exactly the same reaction to killing someone. So the answer is interesting, and cannot be inferred from his job.
