ST. GEORGE, UT (NBC) - Bank managers in Utah are looking for a woman who may have unknowingly cashed in rare gold coins.
Managers at the Zion Bank in Saint George say the woman walked into the bank last week with 14 gold coins.
The woman told the teller she had groceries waiting at Wal-Mart, but they wouldn't let her use the coins so she exchanged them at face value for $20 each. But the coins, which date back to 1875, are worth thousands.
If melted down at today's gold prices, each coin is worth a minimum of $900.
Managers say the bank teller who exchanged the coins took them home, paying face value himself to the bank.
Bank managers recovered the coins and fired the teller, saying he should have told them about the woman and her coins.
