    Default Sirius Radio Anyone ?

My son bought a Sirius capable system for his car off eBay. It was brand new, in the box, never used. He hooked it up about 10 months ago, flipped it on and it worked from get the get go.

Now isn't it supposed to be registered somehow? He's used it 10 months, never registered it, has never been billed for the service and continues to use it.

Down side, on clouded days or while riding tree lined streets, the service isn't so hot. I surmise the service is a lot like Dish or Direct TV satelilites, sketchy service on bad weather days.

I'm not sure about sirius, but XM has a monthly fee of something like $15?

I wonder if he purchased an 'unlocked' version without knowing it?

Sirius and XM merged. Turned on my car radio last Wednesday and most all the stations had changed from what I was used to with XM. Still haven't had a chance to wade through them and figure out what is what and what I like. Most have cutesy names that make it tough to figure out what they play.

On the positive side, there is now an all Grateful Dead station!!!

I've actually grown to like XM. On long trips to wrestling events like to the Southern Scuffle, ACCs, Lehigh; or taking my daughter to visit colleges, etc., it is nice to have a constant set of stations to listen to rather than just the local stations or CDs.

Yes, there's a monthly fee. I've had mine for 4 years. When you buy the radio, you have to activate it, by calling in or going online. You put in the serial number for your radio unit, to tie it to your account.

Sounds like somehow, maybe the original owner activated it and perhaps didn't realize and is still getting billed for it. It gets set up like an automatic billing. You can pay for a year, or 6 months or 3 months at a time.

And yes, the weather can affect the satellite signal, just like with satellite TV. There are some areas around Raleigh/Durham where mine is more static-y, because there is more interference in that area from other satellite signals.

I've had XM for about two years now and I love it. I mainly listen to the comedy channels and 50's and 60's music, but I've got a wide variety of stuff on my pretuned stations. Since the merger with Sirius, the music stations and one of the comedy stations seem to have more talk between the songs and comedians - not good. The great thing, as Wrestling Terp said, is that when you travel, you don't have to look for local stations.

The strength and location of the satellite antenna in/on the vehicle can also make a difference in how often you have signal problems.

My wife is agitating to get a satellite radio - I don't know anything about them. What should I look for? Are there a lot of classical stations available (that is all she listens to).
