If bar buys alone say something, then Adolf is right. Only three bars in the state of Illinois carried the fight, and they were way out in the 'burbs of Chicago. To give you some context on that number, 88 bars in Illinois showed UFC 92.

That's too bad but not surprising. I guess the arena didn't even sell out? Wow California people are lame.
Affliction puts a great card together with proven talent, and then doesn't get the word out. UFC fans who don't chat on the internet about MMA don't know what Affliction is. Fortunate they gave us 2 great cards with some of the UFC-Pride matchups I always wished for. Too bad AA can't eat a punch, I wanted to see them go at it for 5 rounds.

maybe guys like us need to spread the word about these great cards if we want to see more of them.
I did that with the last Affliction show. I was putting out those laminated fight card advertisements at all the sports bars I went to and in the bathrooms at clubs. So I hope that I helped with some of that initial buyrate.
However, theres too many sheep who live and die by the word of Dana McMahon White and if he says Affliction sucks, then they suck and wont watch them.
I don't know if it's as much that they worship Dana, they just don't know about the Affliction fighters. My brother is perfect example of this. He knows MMA from the UFC because that's what is in front of him on Spike. He watched Elite XC because again, it's what was in front of him. Fedor didn't factor in for him because he's not a blog reading, You Tube obsessing MMA fan. He reads my site because he's my brother, but if it wasn't for Cage Writer, he wouldn't know of him. He doesn't worship Dana or the UFC, it's just all he knows.
Dana White is as big of a star as any of the fighters in the UFC at this point. There are a ton of fans who are obsessed with him and for that I can completely confused.
They definitely buy into whatever he says, and he has gone out of way to rip on a lot of the other orgs and that plays a factor into people taking it seriously.
Of course not everyone is like that and a lot of people just arent exposed to mma outside of UFC but there are definteily a lot of Danaphiles as Dingo would say.
It has more to do with abysmal advertising by Affliction than it does people listening to Dana White.
Has anyone seen a commercial on TV for either of these shows? How do you roll out 3.5 million in purses but not tell anyone about the fight? The UFC probably has the inverse as far as costs. They give us a million slick commercials on Spike, product endorsements, and event websites, but then don't pay anyone. And just like with any sale, advertising is more important than product. I mean just look at Donaghy Vineyards Champagne.
Affliction needs a TV deal or a new ad campaign or they are done soon no matter how good the cards are.
I admit that their advertising is not the greatest, but I have heard numerous radio ads and did see a few tv spots, not sure of the channels though, obviously they arent all over the place but either way it doesnt help when Dana McMahon runs them down to his TUF newb fans.
Pimach, if I didn't talk mma on the internet, I would have missed both cards. They were associated with some established names, I don't know how they couldn't sell out a show in California when Shamrock alone was able to sell out shows there (and Cung Le alone too)
A great product is not enough when UFC is a more popular acronym than MMA is.
