UFC Live Results & Commentary: Junior Dos Santos Hurts Gonzaga
The hits keep coming for the ever maturing Junior Dos Santos. Another quality opponent, another vicious knockout victory.
Dos Santos timed his left hook off of Gongaza’s head kick; Gonzaga was out when he hit the ground. Everything else was academic…and painful if your nickname happens to be “Napao.”
Official time of beat down: Dos Santos by KO at 3:53 of the first round.
For dos Santos, the obvious fight that people will be tweeting about is opposite fellow phenom Cain Velasquez. The UFC may not want to pit their two young stars against each other yet, but may not have any other option as Shane Carwin and Frank Mir are set to battle next week at UFC 111, and Brock Lesnar awaits that winner.
There is no one else worth of fighting either young lion at this point.
For Gonzaga, if he was not already thought of as a heavyweight gatekeeper, this fight secured that job role. If the UFC wants to give Brendan Schaub, who won impressively tonight, a big step up in competing they could put him up against the wounded but always dangerous Brazilian.
Another intriguing option would be Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
