Rousey vs. Carmouche: Previewing UFC 157's Groundbreaking Main Event
When UFC women’s bantamweight champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey (6-0) squares off against Liz Carmouche (7-2) in the main event of UFC 157, it will be the first-ever women's fight in company history.
This will be the coming out party for women’s MMA.
As great as Carmouche is in the cage and as dangerous as she can be in all facets of the MMA game, she is outclassed against a formal Olympic judo medalist in Rousey.
Rousey won the Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Championship early last year, defended it once and was given the newly made UFC women's title when Dana White signed the female star late in 2012.
This will be the biggest stage either of these women has ever been on, and more importantly in the grand scheme of things, this is the biggest stage women’s MMA has been on.
UFC 157 is a step in the right direction for the sport.

Ronda Rousey’s Keys to Victory
After all the talk of history being made, it’s time to break the actual fight down. In watching the film on Rousey, this woman will be an absolute terror in the Octagon and is a walking submission machine.
In Rousey’s six career fights, she has six submissions by armbar, with all of them coming in the first round. Using a five-minute championship round as reference, Rousey’s six combined fight times wouldn’t equal two rounds.
With all previous history considered, the game plan for Rousey on Saturday night will be to attack Carmouche early with a flurry of strikes and take her opponent to the ground. Once the champion gets position on the mat, a submission is inevitable.
Liz Carmouche’s Keys to Victory
While many fans do not know Liz Carmouche or are not familiar with her work, this is one of the most dangerous women in the sport of MMA today. Add in her military background, and this tough bantamweight is looking to make her mark on the sport.
Carmouche suffered two heartbreaking losses in Strikeforce, but the veteran found a new style and confidence during her time fighting for Invicta FC. Now it’s on to her toughest test to date, Ronda Rousey.
It’s clear that the champion will try to attack from the very start of the fight, but Carmouche’s game plan must be to strike quickly and keep moving. As long as Rousey is kept at a distance, she will not be able to use her judo to throw Carmouche to the mat.
Carmouche must slow the pace of the fight and wear Rousey down. Once a window of opportunity presents itself for a countermove, though, the challenger must take it because the champion doesn’t have many weaknesses.
Prediction: Rousey Via Second-Round Submission
