Mark Munoz Gets Back on Middleweight Title Track in UFC 123
Mark "The Filipino Wrecking Machine" Munoz has picked up his fourth win in the UFC middleweight division since dropping from light heavyweight after Munoz defeated Aaron Simpson.
Munoz kept a ferocious pace that would eventually tire out his elder Simpson, and would get the better of the exchanges on the feet.
I believe that Rafael Cardeiro has done wonders for Munoz, as his striking has greatly improved since his last few fights.
In Munoz's lone loss in the middleweight division to number two contender Yushin Okami, he was able to drop Okami and take him down in the fight, and if his striking keeps improving I could see him getting to the top of the line for a title shot.
The win over Simpson also proved that Munoz has great conditioning, as he was able to maintain a solid pace for fifteen minutes.
Right now, Munoz could use more top-10 calibre opponents, and I believe with the current state of the middleweight division that with a few more wins he'll be the number one contender.
I believe the next logical step up the ladder for Munoz is a fight with either Michael Bisping or Chris Leben. The fight would really be able to tell us if Munoz could be in line for a title or not, as both Bisping and Leben are the upper-tier gatekeepers.
