Dana White's MMA empire grew a bit larger yesterday when it was announced that the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) would absorb the WEC (World Extreme Cagefigting).

According to ESPN.com the WEC's last official event will be on December 16, 2010, at WEC 53. The defunct league's will then compete in the UFC, where a larger television audience is expected.

A major battle is on the horizon once the two league's combine, White says.

Some time in 2011, the winner of WEC 53's Anthony Pettis-Benson Henderson fight (at WEC 53) will battle the winner of the Frankie Edgar-Gray Maynard UFC title fight. The winner of that impending showdown will become one of the sports most celebrated champions.
