A clash of heavyweights headlined the UFC 121 marquee. In the aftermath of Cain Velasquez’s (9-0) domination of Brock Lesnar (5-2), UFC matchmaker Joe Silva’s next task will be sorting out the heavyweight ranks beyond the No. 1 contender spot.

For the newly crowned champion, top contender Junior Dos Santos (11-1) awaits Velasquez in the first quarter of 2011.

With Lesnar, the UFC’s biggest pay-per-view draw, a handful of intriguing match-ups await the ex-champ.

Rematches with Frank Mir (14-5) or Shane Carwin (12-1) would be box office dynamite for the UFC and provide Lesnar with motivation to get back in the gym to improve on his embarrassing last performance.

When Lesnar wants to get back in the cage will go a long way in determining who he fights next.

New blood enters the welterweight division as longtime MMA veteran Jake Shields (26-4-1) made a successful Octagon debut against Martin Kampmann (17-4), though Shields' victory may have been too lackluster to vault him directly into a title shot with champion Georges St. Pierre (20-2) in his next UFC fight.

Ultimate Fighter Season 1 winner Diego Sanchez (22-4) also makes his return to the UFC top ten 170-pounders with his whirlwind performance over former top five contender Paulo Thiago (13-3).
