UFC Releases Patrick Cote
In the UFC, the motto is usually three strikes and you’re out. There was no exception to the rule for former Middleweight Title contender Patrick Cote.
After losing his last three fights, Cote was released from the promotion on Wednesday.
"I had a little hope but finally got the release word from the UFC," Cote posted on Twitter.
It’s been a tough couple of years for Cote. In October 2008, he completely blew out his knee in the third round of his Middleweight Championship bout with Anderson Silva. Knee surgery kept him out of action for about two years.
Since his return, Cote has lost back-to-back bouts to Alan Belcher and Tom Lawlor. The loss to Lawlor occurred at UFC 121, where Cote was easily taken down and controlled for all three rounds.
Cote went 0-4 in the octagon before finally getting his first victory over Scott Smith in February 2007. The win propelled him to consecutive victories over Ricardo Almeida, Drew McFedries, Kendall Grove, and Jason Day.
In TKO Major League MMA, Cote was the Light Heavyweight and Middleweight Champion. He has also held titles in King of the Cage and Maximum Fighting Championships.
