Uniforms in just about every sport have changed over the years. Basketball players once wore short-shorts; baseball players wore tight-fitting polyester.

College wrestling uniforms have gone through even more radical changes.

In writing about legendary amateur wrestlers for InterMat Rewind and the “Where Are They Now?” historical series for Wrestling USA magazine, I often hear from readers who question the wrestling gear shown in the photos… because it looks nothing like what they see in a typical college wrestling match of today.
