I wrestled in Nor Cal for 3 years in High School. Out there, we didn't have jr highs. They were formed k-8 in one school and 9-12 in high schools. Anyways, my senior year I was a 152 lbs wrestler. I wrestled a freshman every week before the matches as a "wrestle-off' to see who would wrestle JV and who would take varsity. This kid was the only one in my weight class on the team, so we practiced together during the week as well. Everyone agreed that I was the better wrestler and more dedicated, but this kid would take my weaknesses from the past week and beat me with it, even though he had only come to 3 or 4 practices. He would then wrestle Varsity that week and loose, while I would win my JV match by a pretty big margin usually. Not sure why there are more showing up, but for the second part of the question, it was NOT healthy nor helpful for our team.
