Default Hunter Meyes Breaks National Record For Pins

Yesterday, reigning NYS Champion and MOW Hunter Meys of Shenendehowa High School broke the national H.S. record for pins by a high school wrestler, registering 4 pins all under 1 minute in the tournamanet he was entered. This brings him to 192 pins for his career, eclipsing the previous mark set by two-time NCAA Champion Steve Mocco of 188.

Meys has signed letter of intent to attend Boston University in the following. The following is a great write up in his local newspaper.

You spell his last name Meyes. I went to school with him. He was in 7th grade and wrestled at 96 pounds when i was a junior wrestling at 275. He happen to break the record in his home town gym. It was the Shenendehowa Invitational Tournament. I graduated in 2004. He is one of the best wrestlers that our high school has seen and is one of the best wrestlers currently in ny. He averages about 35-40 wins a year and most of them are pins. He has i think only like 7 or 8 looses in his 6 year career. He is at 192 pins with like 20 or so more matches to go to add on to his record. The last national ranking that I saw he was ranked 9th in the nation at 189. I think he should be higher. I guess we will see when he goes to senior nationals. I think he will def. take top 6.

I think he will def. take top 6.
Hunter is the best in the state this year. An amazing talent and awesome pinner. As much as I enjoy watching him wrestle I also enjoyed watching you wrestle Tim. You showed unusual speed for a heavyweight and had excellent moves off the legs. The weight class has been boring since your graduation.

holy crap, Kish had 252 victories in four seasons of highschool wrestling...can you say "burn-out"...averaged 63 wins per season...i think you are pushing a kid when you give him 45 matches per season...

What is real interesting about those stats is how few of those kids ever made an impact in college.

Most of the names I've never even heard of.

I'd be interested in knowing why USA Wrestliong doesn't recognize the career pins racked up by Zeerip and Steffen out of Michigan.

I've got a kid (Ben Willeford) that could eventually make top 10 on that list. He has 72 pins in 2 seasons. I just can't get him 65 matches a year. lol. That's insane. He wrestled 54 last season went 52-2 and pinned 42. Never wrestled before his freshman year in October of 2006.
