Re: Grappling
A big criticism from the brazilian jiu jitsu and sub grappling community, of which I am a member, is that the FILA rules attempt to place a lot of emphasis on fighting from the top. Which is fine, but an essential element of grappling is the fighting from the bottom. The point system in BJJ and sub grappling already slightly favor the top, but the concept is that it is the fighters that determine who has the favorable position. That's one of the sport's great strengths, that the rules are open enough to the point where you can fight the way you want and not be penalized for it. I compete against Competitor A, maybe my guard is stronger than his top game. It could be the exact opposite, though. It's the ability of the fighters that is determining who has the advantage in a given position, not the rules.

Re: Grappling
Submission Wrestling/MMA is my gig and what I do in Brazil. I want to see it become an Olympic Sport or at the very least have a higher profile. If you take out too much of the Jiu Jitsu it will become a watered down version of Wrestling. Abu Dhabi rules are perfect and will force a true merger of Wrestling with Brazilian Jui Jitsu and incorporate the best elements of Catch, Japanese-Style submission,Judo,Sambo and the whole nine yards.
I think the US could be the best country on earth for this particular art if it grows up the right way.

Grappling plays an important role in the practice of Mix Martial Arts (MMA) and can be used as a self-defence technique. It brings together techniques from Brazilian jiu-jitsu, freestyle wrestling, folk American wrestling (catch-as-catch-can), sambo and judo.
Grappling has been integrated by FILA in 2006 and is managed by the World Grappling Committee whose task is to coordinate and to develop this discipline at the international level. Grappling is one of the most important disciplines of the World and European Wrestling Games organized every year by FILA.
Grappling matches last six minutes and are refereed by a referee, a judge and a mat chairman. Grapplers wear shorts and a tight shirt and are bare foot. The match is interrupted when a grappler who is in a submission situation taps the mat to let know that he or she has been defeated or when the referee considers that he or she will not able to make it without getting hurt and pronounces the word ? catch ?. Weight categories are split as follows.
Weight categories are split as follows:
- Men 62kg, 70kg, 80kg, 92kg and 125kg
- Women 48kg, 55kg, 63kg and 72kg"

Re: Grappling
ya I heard about it last 2 years back when i was still in Philippines. but they say it will probably impossible because of the standard and the style we use in jiu jitsu and plus there's too many kinds of fighting style's in jiu jitsu.

Re: Grappling
The Abu Dhabi rules are quite good. Frankly I dont see what the hubub is. No gi Jiu Jitsu plus the million of other stylstic quirks of people like Japanease shooto stylists (who love rolling kneebars and kamikaze flying armbars unorthodox stuff) mixed with pure wrestling is magic. Its not that hard to come up with rules and make it an olympic sport I think BJJ and submission both should be olympic sports. Id love to compete in that. I want a GOLD BABY A GOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
a thousand pardons - I got excited.
