but if you want to know the Olympic team, they already announced it.

Rahimi, Esmaeilpour, Taghavi, Goudarzi, Lashgari, Yazdani and Ghasemi in freestyle.
Sourian, Noroozi, Abdevali, Akhlaghi, Rezaei and Babajanzadeh in Greco-Roman.
    IS Ali Akhbari still banned?

How does Iran determine it's national team?

Iran get no wildcard for 74 greco? It's a disgrace what the russians have pulled at 96, then again my friend saw ali akbari break 2 smith machines.

They said he was lifting heavy and at a ridiculous pace, and it snapped something on the machine, i'm pretty sure they don't operate with cables but it was something along these lines. Lord only knows what he can lift with upper body.

interesting, 7 matches, 19 periods but only 1 point in standing position, 3rd period of 84kg final and even that point was Mishin's mistake.
Not sure "interesting" is the word I would chose Maybe like the freestyle guys, these guys just know each other too well. I enjoyed the 55 kg final though I thought Mankiev lost all 3 periods personally. The guy who beat him- what are his credentials? Pretty impressive ni this math.

There is no proper system in Iran. it changes year by year

Greco-Roman coach simply doesn't believe in head to head trials, he selects his team from minor tournaments (Nationals, Worlds Junior and etc) then sends them to international tournaments (Asian Championships, World Cup) at the end he picks his team on his own judgement.

in freestyle we usually have a trial tournament 3 months before the Worlds/Olympics. the better wrestler (not necessarily the winner) qualifies. for example last year Yazdani lost to an unknown wrestler but still they sent him to Istanbul and won the World titile.
but only this year we had some changes in Freestyle coaching stuff and the new coach (Olympic Champion R. Khadem) said there is no enough time for a tournament like this. he selected his team based on Asian Championships, Takhti Cup and World Cup results. only in 120kg we had wrestle-off matches. Ghasemi first beat Masoumi before the World Cup, then beat Parviz Hadi in a 5-period match.

even If you see Russian wrestlers in other tournaments, they can't score in standing position ! with the exception of Vlasov.

Russian wrestlers are very strong in par terre position but we know it's risky.

This guy Semenov wrestled in European Championship this year and finished only 5th ! (lost to Modos and Kostadinov)
