Edit - Are all the Womens and Greco weights qualified?
damn, great comeback by frayer, but i was hoping to see metcalf in the olympics.
From a international view this is bad for the us metcalf imo has a much better chance than frayer, does frayer not have to place higher than metcalf in international competition, as Jimbo pointed out in another thread this is where the american trial system has its faults, one tournament to decide who goes, when frayer hasn't done a thing internationally for years where metcalf has done excellent the past year medalling at the takhti cup, coming 4th at the yarygin last year beating world medalists along the way. Metcalf looked really upset at the press conference, i don't blame him the guy does all that hard work to get the us to the olympics at 66 then loses one match and thats it.
This has to be just brutal for guys like Simmons and Metcalf who have really committed themselves to this dream. Honestly, I don't feel too sorry for guys like Cejudo and others who come out of the woodwork just for the Olympic year, but for those guys who have put careers, family and literally their life on hold for years to make an Olympic team and fall just short is just heart breaking. It makes me feel pretty silly when I have my "life is not fair" moments. These guys have my deepest respect. Hats off to Frayer for having in incredible day - beating Dustin Schlatter, Teyon Ware and Brent Metcalf (and Joe Johnston) - amazing. I don't know if he could do it again, but if he gets in the zone again like this at the Olympics, I think he'd have a decent chance to medal.
