Re: European olympic qualifier
Gayzumov must be really hurt, isn't wrestling here either with a trip to the Olympics on the line.
This qualifier is brutal compared to some of the others. There is going to be some seriously nasty wrestlers left over in the "general"' qualifiiers.
I'm surprised A. Saitiev is going over Tsargush, after getting spanked in their head to head matchup. Is Russia that confident in Saitiev? Or are they punishing Tsargush for not qualifying at worlds?

Re: European olympic qualifier
Saitiev looks like he's back to form based on his scores. Beats one of my favorites Terziev in the final.
Stadnik, Ganev, Fedorishin among the big names that don't qualify.
Did Gogchenlidze forfeit in the finals at 96? I can't make sense of the scoring on the Fila page.

That score usually suggests he got pinned, or forfeited in the match.

Re: European olympic qualifier
That's what I thought... I'm guessing forfeit since only one technical point was scored.
Ganev may be known for inconsistency, but I'm still surprised he lost to friggin' Switzerland, shortly after beating Urishev to place second at the "other" European championship.
Asgarov is having himself quite a season. Maybe he does have a shot at Olympic gold? Very fun to watch.

Re: European olympic qualifier
how many in each weight qualify? why weren't the european championships used as a qualifier?

Re: European olympic qualifier
Gogshelidze got injured in the first period after a single leg shot by Gadisov.
The Swiss guy who beat Ganev is good. He wrestled at 74 until recently.
***
Today GR, several guys who were thought to be favorites lost: 55 Amoyan, 66 Vachadze, 74 Bacsi, 84 Abrahamian.....
The young Georgian who replaced Kvirkvelia at 74 is good. Compared to his ripped opponents in this weight class, one could say he has no muscles at all. )))
He performed a flying to squirrel to beat 4:3 Basci of Hungary who had a 3:0 lead less than 5 seconds before the end of the period. The Georgian eventually won the whole thing beating Madsen of Denmark in the final.
But statistically seen, the Danish guys are the real champs.
Only 3 wrestlers of Denmark participated, 2 of them won Olympic tickets - Madsen at 74 and Nyblon became the champ at 55.
