The Venezuelan he barely lost to (0-1,6-3,1-1) is pretty good, so I don't think there should be much concern. Diaz beat Bertolino at last year's Pan Am's pretty solidly and beat Puerto Rico's Espinal on the way to the finals of this tournament. Espinal has finished as high as 9th at Worlds, so while this wasn't Gavin's best tournament and I'm sure he's capable of beating Diaz, it's also not a shocker.
