Imre Polyak passed away
The Hungarian Wrestling Federation announced the death of the Olympic Champion Imre Polyak after an incurable illness at the age of 78.*After winning three Olympic silver medals (1952, 1956,1960), he finally reached the top of the world when he becameOlympic Champion in Tokyo 1964 (in Greco-Roman 64kg). He was also three-time World Champion (1955,1958, 1962) and two-time silver medallist (1961 and 1963).*After his active career, he worked as coachin his club and in the national team as well.*In Hungary, he was elected Wrestler of the 20th Century while FILA ranked him second best Greco-Roman Wrestler of the Century. In2003 he was inducted in the FILA Hall of Fame among*the very first inductees.*He also received the*title ?Athlete of the Nation? that was created in Hungary in 2004 as due appreciation for the outstanding careerof 12 former champions of various sports.The funeral arrangements will be organized by the HungarianWrestling Federation and the Hungarian Olympic Committee. FILA conveys its deepest sympathy to Mr. Polyak's family and friends as well as to the Hungarian wrestling family.
