Well a pretty crazy and interesting day of wrestling for Russia. In certain eyes it was a succesful day. we've got Besik Kudukhov with gold at 60KG, Soslan Kstoev with bronze at 84KG and Khadjimurat Gatsalov with silver at 96KG.
I was spot on with Kudukhov winning gold at 60KG. He has just been looking unbeatable ever since Beijing '08 although he won bronze there, which in my opinion, he should've won that class, and last year also in 09' at Herning. He really never has encountered anyproblems since moving from 55KG to 60KG. We have certainly seen that for sure. I continue to keep all eyes on him. I can't for the coming years with this guy to see what he will do, especially with 2012 London.
Soslan Ktsoev did pretty good with bronze at 84KG. Even though I still wanted Gadisov to represent, I have no problem with Ktsoev coming. I love to watch Ktsoev and I know he is a great wrestler and of course although we expect gold from all our wrestlers, especially Freestyle, he did a great job at this tournament and he will continue to only get better. I look forward to watching him in the coming time. He is a great wrestler also.
Words cannot explain on how I feel about how Gatsalov just lost in the finals against Gayzumov. I'm guessing Gayzumov wasn't actually paid to throw the match. He certainly has given Gatsalov problems in the past. I was certainly worried about this, and my bigget fears came true. After 6 years of just looking unbeatable and completely dominate (even though he didn't compete at Beijing '08 and has had a few losses here and there) he loses in the finals of his 5th World Championships. And what makes it worse is that it was in his homeland of Russia in front of all of his fans and family. I thought he wrestled hard and true, but just didn't give enough to beat Gayzumov, which he should have done. I'm surprised and very dissapointed, but I still believe he is the best and that he'll come back even stronger next time. I look forward to seeing him more and Gayzumov for sure also together. Hopefully they'll meet again. It will surely be interesting to see what happens next with Gatsalov and what we'll, but I'm extremely optimistic!
All in all, it was a pretty good and productive day for Russia with 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze. We had some big misses here and there, but we finished well. Again, Gatsalov should've won and I am very mad, sad, and dissapointed about that, but there's nothing we can do about it now, except just look forward to the future! I'm also positive that Russia has a firm grasp on the team score and lead, but we'll see with one day left! Hopefully we will take the next three weight classes with great wrestlers and the overall team title tomorrow, but we'll just have to wait and see! it'll surely be interesting and exciting!
