    1 pt blue.
Red's coach protested. After video review, the referees decided 1 for blue was correct.

You may not know this, but I have recently deemed myself a freestyle refereeing afficianado. So, at 1:56 I give 1-point blue for the takedown. At 1:59, I give 1-point red for the pushout. So it is written, so let it be done!

Not being the scoring guru that Quinn is, was the point for a push out or a takedown?

There is no takedown at 1:56 - red's knees don't touch the mat. I think they gave 1 point blue for the throw at 1:59.

Look - this is the score sheet:
    http://www.liga-db.de/nvligendb.asp?...l&BegID=144594
You see 1 pt blue at 1:53 real time (= 1:59 in the video; at 2:00 you see the time stopped at 1:53 on the score board).
The second point blue at 1:53 has been given after the video review - for the incorrect protest by red's coach.

Wow! I have paused this at both 1:55 and 1:56 and it looks like his knee might have touched. In fast motion I would have said it did. But the 1:59 deal, I would have given to red instead of blue. It looked to me like blue's right foot was already out before he started his throw. But they are both pretty close.

How did you score it Snakem? Arm-spin?

I think akzent's explanation is correct. As for my own scoring: not sure if the knee touched or not, but either way I'd score the throw situation as 1 pt blue. Looks like they both stepped out at the same time, but blue initiated the move, and IMO scores a 1 pt effort throw.

I'm not sure what the official FILA rulebook says, but I think most referees go by "when in doubt, give the point to the aggressor".

I know that you both know more about international scoring than I do, so I will concede to your decision. But, could you see how a newbie to this scoring system could think of red as the aggressor at 1:59? It looked to me like he was attacking, by moving forward, and the blue guy threw up a desperation "counter throw". I have been playing judo for the past 7 years and they look at the aggressor as being the one moving forward and pressing the action.

I agree that blue threw red, it just looked like he backed up one step too far before he started. Which, IMO, meant red was the aggressor and pushed blue out. But, again, I am a newbie at this and am still trying to learn how to score it. Both of those scrambles obviously had me scoring wrong. I will continue to try to hone my skills as long as everyone continues to post, so it's all good. And I have definitely found a new appreciation for freestyle and greco.

I can see it your way as well quinn. Freestyle and greco are like that; one situation can have multiple reasonable interpretations.

I'd hate to be the one scoring the end of this one. Poland throws Turkey to his back; Turkey rolls into him and briefly holds him on his back. Referees score it 2-2, give Turkey "last point" and with it the match. Turkey goes on to win the worlds.

I saw a similar situation at the CIS nationals live a few years back right at the end of the match, in that case they gave last point to the "thrower".

Askren doing his thing vs Turkey.

Polatci vs Thompson- some very nice front headlock throws in the 3rd.

Aliyev match. What a monster he is. Anyone know if this guy has ever wrestled Albiev from Russia? Could be next year's "clash of the titans" match.
