I watch these HWTs and it just doesn't look right

I remember the era of McCoy, Neal, Lesnar, Benjamin, and others and these guys like Fox, Rosholt and Prendergast don't look on their level. Not technique wise and not athletically speaking. Does anyone agree?

I guess it might also have something to do with the fact that I am 100 pounds bigger now than back then and HWTs don't look as massive to me as back then. Anyway here is Neal vs McCoy in 1997 to compare:

I agree somewhat this year, but not over the last few years. I think that the last few years have been great for the heavy weight class. We've seen the Tommy rowlands, Mocco, the heavy from Penn state a few years back, Konrad, Velasquez, degain, I could go on.

This year there is certainly no McCoy, or Konrad, or Mocco. But I don't think these guys are that far off.

Would any guy in that list beat McCoy? Probably not, but they are all up there with each other. Look at Freestyle, there's guys going greco and cutting to 211 so they don't have to go through that meat grinder.

This year, I totally agree with you as there is no "star". The last 5 years, certainly not, I'm personally spoiled.

Yeah, I am talking about this year. I think Rowlands, Konrad and Mocco were a step below Neal and McCoy but these guys are 2-3 steps below. I think either Neal or McCoy would beat Fox by a major.

I think potential wise, they certainly could major fox. But I Don't think they would. I think fox is the best heavyweight this year. Also, he's really big. I think they major everyone else. But I know what you mean.

I myself ahve balloned into a cutting heavyweight over the last few years, (well, thats a bit much) and I've enjoyed the break away from us fat guys dancing to the athletic heavy weight. Its nice to see those guys not play football.

Ezra and I were just having this exact conversation as we walked back to our hotel. We actually left before the heavyweight matches because they are just boring.

Frankly, except for Konrad, last year seemed weak too. This weight is ripe for someone to step up and take it over.

I'm serious, the last few years have been a boone. We're definitely spoiled. especially here in sota. I'm interested to see how long it takes for the cycle to repeat.
