Penn State boosters are ready and waiting to buy out any contracts necessary and boost any salaries that may need boosting.

So they'll boost the salaries of the field hockey and women's lacrosse coaches too, as well as any others that need to be bumped? Schools are having a hard time right now meeting their budgets because of the economy.

Nothing against Ken he does a lot for the sport, but why would you hire someone who has very little coaching experience to be the head coach at a Big 10 school. He has TONS of camp experience, and coaching youth kids, but college is much different.

College coaching at the Div I level isn't as much about demonstrating technique these days as it is being a CEO of the program and overseeing compliance, budget, recruiting, fundraising, etc., There can be a pretty steep learning curve because of the unique challenges these days.

How does Flynn not get an interview?? I think of the coaches mentioned, he is the best of the bunch.

I know exactly who you are talking about. Wrestling doesn't exist in a vacuum in an athletic department. They (name almost any school) can't jack up the wrestling coaching salary without having other coaches demanding the same and, with gender equity in place, the department will have to meet those demands. Thus the wrestling boosters might well have to ante up for other sport's coaching salaries and the reason we could only go to a certain level last year while battling Lehigh. And Lehigh is a different situation from most state universitiies.

This may seem an amusing exercise for most of you, but I don't want the kids on Maryland's team to go through what the did last year. The is a very real economic reality that exists. I was talking with someone who has a lot of insight into this particular case and they also feel that the contract buyout will be a significant obstacle.
